The workforce of the international engineering and construction company M+W Group has broken a new record. As of 30 September this year, the company counted more than 7,000 employees, an increase of more than 900 relative to the beginning of the year. Nearly 60% of the new employees were hired in Asia, while around 20% were recruited each in Europe and the US.
"Having had a workforce of 4,500 at the end of 2009, we now have more than 7,000 employees. Thus in less than two years we’ve increased our workforce by more than 50%, an achievement that would not have been possible without the high esteem of our customers worldwide," says M+W Group chief executive officer Jürgen Wild. "I’m also very pleased at the success of the numerous measures we have implemented to attract new and qualified employees."
M+W Group currently has about 170 positions available worldwide that are being advertised in print media, as well as on various online portals and the M+W Group website (www.mwgroup.net). Direct contact with a number of technically oriented universities and their students is another important way of attracting new employees. M+W Group experts give talks to various groups of engineering students to describe their own professional experiences and discuss with them the career opportunities available in international high-tech engineering and construction. Projects abroad arouse particular interest during these events.
M+W Group also offers special support programmes for budding engineers in a number of countries. These programmes enable engineering students to work on M+W Group projects in Germany or abroad for example, during their summer break, or within the framework of an internship. These students are mentored by an experienced project manager, who also acts as advisor for their diploma thesis.
