International engineering and construction company M+W Group has reported a new record in the photovoltaic sector. The company with headquarters in Stuttgart/Germany has passed the 10GW mark for engineering and construction of photovoltaic plants with a new contract for a solar cell plant in Asia with a total annual capacity of more than one gigawatt. By exceeding the 10GW record, M+W Group is further strengthening its position of international market leadership as an engineering and construction company for photovoltaic plants. This applies to thin-film as well as silicon-based cells and modules.
M+W Group received the first order for design and construction of a photovoltaic plant in 2000 and has been a pioneer in this emerging sector since. Over the years the economies of scale linked to the gradual expansion of production capacity have resulted in significant cost reductions. Whereas the first plants achieved annual capacities of 25MWp (megawatt/peak) with a single production line, today’s plants achieve annual performances of one gigawatt/peak and more with multiple production lines.
Since 2000 M+W Group has planned and built a total of 40 photovoltaic plants, initially in Germany, though today predominantly in Asia and the Americas. In 2010 the company was awarded the Solar Industry Award as ‘Turnkey Company of the Year 2010’ for its successes.
Exhibition booth at InterSolar Europe: ‘From Sand to Solar Power Plants’
During the InterSolar Europe in Munich (June 8–10, 2011), M+W Group will present its unique solar-related portfolio in hall 5, booth 390. The scope ranges from factories for the production of Poly Silicon, PV-ingots, wafers, cells and modules to PV power plants and concentrated solar power plants. M+W Solar, a company of the M+W Group, will present its turnkey and cost-effective solutions for developing, designing and building photovoltaic power plants.
Expert Lecture at the 7th Advanced PV Forum about further cost-savings
There is further potential today to reduce operating costs, particularly through improved energy efficiency and by recycling water, gases and other key raw materials. An expert from M+W Group will present details at the ‘7th Advanced PV Manufacturing Forum for Crystalline Silicone Technology’, the associated congress to the InterSolar exhibition at 2.30 p.m. on June 7, 2011 in the International Congress Center in Munich.
